Husayn Summit
Faced every day with a barrage of shocking statistics about injustice, intolerance and global problems, the Husayn Summit was launched as a platform for change-makers to share their bold ideas. The event brings international speakers together to raise the level of discourse on critical issues shaping society. In 2020, the theme for the Birmingham-based summit is women’s leadership and empowerment.
Editing Edge played a critical role in the run up to the event.
The Problem
The inter-faith Husayn Summit is a high-profile event organised by the Khoja Shia Muslim Community of Birmingham (KSIMC). Renowned international speakers this year include Fatema Dewji (one of Africa’s most influential women), British peer Baroness Warsi, former Liberal Democrat leader Jo Swinson, Conservative MP Owen Patterson and Labour MP Liam Byrne.
The preparation, publicity and information for the event needed to reflect the calibre of speakers by helping to promote the summit in advance as well as providing insight and information for attendees.
The Answer
Lesley at Editing Edge was tasked with writing the marketing copy for the Summit, encompassing the event website, the booklet for attendees, press releases, the VIP profiles and a news story for Khoja News.
So a very busy time for Lesley, but a fascinating subject to research and write about!
The Result
The publicity and website were well received. The Husayn Summit was huge success, with hundreds of attendees, passionate and high-level debate, VIP contributions and very uplifting amid the growing tensions of coronavirus. It was one of the last such events to take place before lockdown so set the agenda for what can be achieved once life gets back to more of a “new normal.”
