The Client

At Editing Edge, we are passionate about working with clients playing their part to protect and have a positive impact on our planet. An inspiring client includes Inntel whose White Paper highlighted ways in which international travel can be sustainable.

So Editing Edge founder Lesley Hussell was thrilled to be invited to edit a climate change playbook for the Climate Coaching Alliance (CCA).

The CCA is a global, voluntary organisation of coaches dedicated to transforming the coaching profession and its impact on creating a sustainable future.

The Problem

The CCA wanted to produce a guide for coaches working with politicians, civic leaders and policymakers on sustainability.

However, much of the original content had been authored by a variety of CCA experts, all with different writing styles.

In addition, we had a very tight deadline to meet!

The Solution

With such a range of different writing styles, we focused on 1) highlighting core arguments and drawing attention to hidden nuggets provided by the expert coaches whilst 2) drafting content that was a straightforward guide of use to any climate coach, whatever the stage of their work with their clients.

At Editing Edge, we frequently work with clients on White Papers and reports which provide an ideal platform for them to share thought-leadership ideas in detail. A similar example is  the work we have done for change agents Changequest, creating a series of White Papers that repurpose valuable insights from multiple sources into one impactful thought-leadership piece.

The solution for CCA included:

  • Ensuring consistent voice and tone throughout whole playbook – inclusive, approachable, encouraging/hopeful, non-partisan and neutral
  • Ensuring the document was accessible to the target audience, being mindful of any potential intercultural sensitivities
  • Avoiding jargon as much as possible and, when it was needed, making it understandable
  • Carrying out “readability” and flow improvements
  • Checking there were no copyright issues e.g. diagrams, references and hyperlinks
  • Suggesting best use of font, spacing, italics, bolding, headings, numbering (if needed), diagrams, images and other layout/format features to optimise the reader’s experience. Phew!

The Result

A highly useful guide – The Shaping Tomorrow Playbook.

The playbook is substantial – 90 pages long – but contains essential insights, clear strategies and valuable resources aimed at helping leaders navigate climate-change politics.

It was hugely rewarding to work with the Climate Coaching Alliance and their graphic design team on such a meaningful tool that promises to make a real difference. They have done a fantastic job. It was also a pleasure to work with Intonation Ltd. and the University of Southampton, who commissioned us.
